In inning number three we are going to explore more of the similarities between Baseball and life. It continues to amaze me that there are so many parallels between the two. You might say, “How can you compare a game to the all-important subject of Life itself?”  In this article I am not suggesting that Baseball is on the same level of importance as the subject of “God-given life.” However, I believe there are lessons to be learned from Baseball that can help us navigate through this complex subject of this wonderful Life experience. Here are a couple more likenesses for your enjoyment as a fan of both:

Baseball – Some victories are more important than others:

I’ve heard it said that a win or loss at the beginning of the season is just as important as a win or loss at the end of the season. This is certainly true, nevertheless, there always seems to be that game at the end of the season that a team’s post season hopes and dreams seem to hinge upon. A win or loss in this particular game means the difference between moving on or going home! The team’s efforts in those games get ratchetted up to a little higher level.

Life – Some victories are more important than others:

In our life we encounter many times of decision, and battles with our enemy, the devil, and they are all important for us to win.  I believe we can all agree, however, that there are some that carry more important, long-lasting consequences than others. Decisions like where you are going to attend college, or who you are going to marry will be instrumental to the direction the rest of your life will take. We certainly can’t allow the enemy to cloud our thinking when making these pivotal choices in our life.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT2)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT2)
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Baseball – Teamwork is very important:

In Baseball, it takes everyone on the team working together to be victorious. When Isay everyone, I mean everyone!  It’s not just the ball players, it’s all the people involved with the organization pulling together to make a winning team. The team consists of the infielders, outfielders, pitchers, manager, coaches, medical staff, grounds keepers and upper management, all working together to be successful!

Life – Teamwork is very important:

Life is not a solo event! Life is meant to be lived together with other people. We absolutely need family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, brothers and sisters in Christ. We help to give each other a sense of belonging and purpose. We also help to keep each other grounded, strong in the Lord, and heading in the right direction in our lives.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT2)
24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Acts 2:46-47 (NLT2)
46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— 47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

Be sure to tune in to the next inning for more exciting play by play of Baseball and Life!
Be Blessed in all you do!
