That’s a good question… what does it mean to be political?  Let’s check the dictionary:

Political

  1. involving or characteristic of politics or parties or politicians

▪ calling a meeting is a political act in itself – Daniel Goleman

▪ political pressure

▪ political machine

▪ political office

▪ political policy

2. of or relating to your views about social relationships involving authority or power

▪ political opinions

3. of or relating to the profession of governing

▪ political career

I can see Jesus fitting into most, if not all, of the definitions listed above. Especially number two. What I would like to focus on today are two differing views on governing, and see which one Jesus would best fit into. We find ourselves in the United States of America today, with two major political parties… Democrat and Republican.

First… Democratic party:

I just read today that the Harris-Walz plan is to provide $25,000 in payment assistance for first time home buyers to help fight the cost of home buying. This sounds like a fantastic opportunity for the people who qualify for this plan. But stop and think this through for a moment. Where is all this money going to come from? It would come from the taxes that the rest of us pay out of our hard-earned money. I’m sure it’s not going to come from the bank accounts of Harris and Walz and the rest of the Democrats! This plan sounds very similar to the college loan payoff that President Biden suggested. Take from those who have, and give to those who don’t have.

Do you remember the old saying, “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime?” Handouts never work over the long-haul, however, hand-ups do work! Don’t get sucked in by promises from the Left. We’ll give you free money, free cell phones, free, free, free stuff. And it never succeeds!

Next… Republican party:

If you listen to Trump-Vance plan, it is quite different from the Democratic plan. They want to make the USA energy independent again, so businesses can flourish. Making it possible for people to earn a respectable living and not need a handout! Folks, it’s just that simple, and President Trump knows how to make it happen. He did it in his first term as President, and he can do it again. We were energy independent. Businesses were opening in this country instead of Mexico or China, and people were back to work. Why did he accomplish that you ask? Because he employed conservative values, sound business practices, and common sense. Not Socialism!

I read today that Vice-President Harris said, “Trump wants to take us back and I want to take us forward.” I guess the choice is ours… back to energy independence, thriving businesses, strong economy, low illegal border crossings, common sense laws and regulations, or ahead to all out Socialism! Which will we choose? Please choose wisely!

Okay… so how does Jesus fit into this picture? Do you remember the parable that Jesus told in the book of Matthew about the talents (money)? Here it is to refresh our memory:

Matthew 25:14–30 (ESV)

14“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. 15To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. 16He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 22And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ 23His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ 26But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 30And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

This story that Jesus told clearly indicates that we should use the money or gifts we have been given to bring about increase. This is in stark contrast to waiting around for a handout from the government! Here is another passage of Scripture, from the Apostle Paul in 2 Thessalonians, that I believe also applies:

2 Thessalonians 3:10–12 (ESV)

10For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. 11For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. 12Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

Please join me in praying for this beautiful country that we love!

Precious Heavenly Father, we now turn to You for guidance and blessings as we are currently in the election season that is so vitally important for the future of our beloved country. We now pray the words of this magnificent song in thanksgiving to You Father:

My country tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died!
Land of the Pilgrim’s pride! From every mountain side,
Let freedom ring!

My native country, thee, Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love. I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills; My heart with rapture fills
Like that above.

Let music swell the breeze, And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom’s song. Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake; Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.

Our father God to, Thee, Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing (pray). Long may our land be bright
With freedom’s holy light; Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King!

In the Name above all Names, the Name of Jesus we pray! AMEN!

/ Jesus Christ is Lord!
