Chapter 17 – Jesus, Diligently Seek Him!
I was watching an interesting conversation on television this week between an atheist and a Christian. The atheist wanted proof that God exists before he would believe in Him. The Christian repeatedly tried to come up with something that would prove God’s existence but it was never quite enough. The fact is … we cannot provide proof of something that can only be received by faith! The book Hebrews gives us lots of information regarding faith. I will list each of these statements independently for clarity:
Hebrews 11:1 (NLT) 1Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.
Hebrews 11:2 (NLT) 2Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.
Hebrews 11:3 (NLT) 3By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.
Hebrews 11:4 (NLT) 4It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did.
Hebrews 11:5 (NLT) 5It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying, “he disappeared, because God took him.”
Hebrews 11:6 (NLT) 6And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Hebrews 11:7 (NLT) 7It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith.
Hebrews 11:8 (NLT) 8It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.
Where do we get the faith to believe you may ask! Romans tells us it comes from God Himself!
Romans 10:17 (NLT
17So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.
Romans 12:3 (NLT)
3… Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.
By stepping out in faith, and receiving Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we receive the assurance after the fact by the presence the Holy Spirit in our life! This passage in Ephesians promises exactly that:
Ephesians 1:13–14 (NLT)
13And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. 14The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.
Jeremiah 29:13–14 (NLT)
13If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. 14I will be found by you,” says the Lord.
Deuteronomy 4:28–29 (NLT)
28There, in a foreign land, you will worship idols made from wood and stone—gods that neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell. 29But from there you will search again for the Lord your God. And if you search for him with all your heart and soul, you will find him.
Heavenly Father, please help each one of us to receive or reaffirm Your Son Jesus as our Lord and Savior! Amen.
As of today, Friday, November 1, we only have three more days till Election Day! At the risk of sounding like an alarmist… this is the most important election of our lives! Perhaps the most important election ever for this great Country we love!
Please don’t vote based on personality or pet issues! Cast your vote for the candidate who will uphold the Constitution and the Bill of Rights! If you are a Born-Again Christian, and I pray that you are, vote for the person who will uphold Christian values!
