Downloads from the Lord: Let’s Cancel the Cancel Culture! Part One
We are living in a day and age where everybody seems to be offended by something and oftentimes offended by multiple things, issues, ideas or events. You name it and people will come out of the woodwork to chastise you for saying it. However, if that’s not enough, they want to silence you and force you to “just keep your opinions to yourself.” In other words, SHUT UP!
(Want to hear something funny? I was just in the process of saving what I’ve written so far, and I realized that there was a typo in what I was about to save. My choice on MS Word was to SAVE or CANCEL, so I had to CANCEL and fix the typo. You can’t make this kind of stuff up. LOL)
Okay, back to the subject at hand. Unless you have been totally out of touch, or living under a rock, as the say, you are familiar with the term “CANCEL CULTURE.” That’s where if you say something that does not fit the narrative of the powers-that-be; you are subject to being canceled!
Cancellation can show-up in many different ways:
– Silenced for a time or even permanently banned from various social media platforms.
– Not allowed to speak your opinion at a school board meeting, or other public gathering.
– Threatened with legal prosecution including fines, jail time or both, just for exercising your
freedom of speech.
– Shunned and ridiculed by family, friends, co-workers, and others with differing views.
I’m not sure how the afore mentioned powers-that-be got that authority, but they sure seem to have it. Who are some of these powerful decision makers? Let’s list a few:
– Powerful social media leaders
– Federal government
– Local government (City councils, school boards, etc.)
– Network and Local News media
– Judicial system
First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Now, we all understand that this freedom of speech has limits, the old example of crying fire in a crowded theater for instance. However, to silence a person based merely on voicing a differing perspective or opinion is just plain wrong. Our Constitution clearly protects us from such actions!
I would refer you back to the posts in the category “Condition of the United States 2021 and beyond” where I discuss this very issue of CANCEL CULTURE. I believe it would be time well spent to read or re-read that post. Here is an excerpt from chapter 9, titled “Censorship, and not allowing an honest debate to take place regarding the issues of our day.”
“It’s a well-known fact that the quickest way to dominate any conversation or debate is to silence the challenging viewpoint. As we discussed in earlier chapters, ideology number one currently has authority over all seven spheres of influence, giving them the ability to mute, silence or block any opposing perspective.”
I will be taking a deeper dive into this subject of CANCEL CULTURE in the next post. It is vitally important that we understand what is going on, and ask ourselves what we can do to come against this trend!
