God so Loved the World that He Gave His Son: The greatest Spiritual battle ever fought – part eight!
Welcome back! I don’t have any idea where this week’s episode of the greatest Spiritual battle ever fought is going to go. However, I can promise you that it will be worth reading. How do I know that it will be worth the read? Because the Holy Spirit Himself is giving me the words that will describe and magnify the Lord Jesus Christ! Jesus Himself said the following:
John 14:26 (NIV)
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Last week I quoted the Scripture from John chapter 16… well instead of telling you about it, I’ll show it to you again, Jesus speaking:
John 16:12-15 (NIV)
12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.
In this passage Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as “The Spirit of Truth.” We already know that Jesus, in John 14:6, makes the statement that He is the way, the TRUTH and the life. Folks… the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of almighty God! He is the Spirit of Jesus! What did the Holy Spirit do for Jesus?
Well… I came upon this passage this morning as I was reading today’s portion of my Bible through in a year plan. In the following passage, John the Baptist is telling his followers about Jesus. I believe you’ll find this as interesting as I did.
John 3:31-34 (NLT2)
31 “He has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else. 32 He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them! 33 Anyone who accepts his testimony can affirm that God is true. 34 For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit.
So what does that mean to us? Jesus was able to accomplish all of the mighty miracles He did because He had the Holy Spirit without limit from the Father! WOW! We have the very same Holy Spirit dwelling in us as Jesus had when He walked this earth!
So you ask again… what does that mean to us? Can we, like Jesus, be filled with the Holy Spirit without limit? Check out Ephesians chapter 5:
Ephesians 5:15-21 (NIV)
15 Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise,16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20 always
giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Not only can we be filled with the Holy Spirit, we are commanded to be filled with the Spirit!
Next week we will find out more about being filled with the Spirit.
isn’t it funny (not really) how we limit the Holy Spirit every single day.
