Downloads from the Lord: The Spoken Word, Part One
Proverbs 16:24 (NLT2)
24 Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
The above words are what greeted me this morning when I read my Bible verse of the day. Allow me to explain why this passage meant something special to me.
Yesterday I was once again seeking the Lord about what to write for the Friday blog post. Nothing, and I mean nothing, was coming to my mind. My thoughts went to a conversation I had with a good friend of mine over breakfast yesterday morning. In the course of conversation, he had mentioned how important our words are. So I prayed, “ Lord, is that what you want me to write about?” I even tried to put something together regarding the words we speak, but all my thoughts were disjointed and fell flat.
At that point I said to the Lord, “Obviously you are not in this because your anointing is certainly not on it.” He loudly spoke to my mind, “Don’t struggle with it any more tonight; I’ll clear it up for you in the morning.” So I dropped it last night and had a good night’s sleep. This morning the Lord gave me Proverbs 16:24, that is the scripture above that I started this post with. He also gave me a totally new perspective on how to proceed. I guess the Bible sure is true when it talks about a time for everything.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT2)
1 For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.
Evidentially last night was not the time for discussing our words but today is. The Lord knows the whys and wherefores and all I have to do is trust Him!
Here is a practical example of the power of the spoken word. We all have cell phones these days right? We can now speak into our cell phone and ask for any information we desire and wallah, it’s instantly at our finger tips. The spoken word triggers that process. The spoken word is more powerful than most of us realize.
In the beginning the Word of God, who we now know as Jesus, spoke all creation into existence with the spoken word.
John 1:14 (NLT)
14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
Genesis 1:1-3 (NLT)
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Yesterday evening a dear cousin of mine breathed his final breath here on earth and went to meet the Lord. We have a family chat group on Facebook Messenger that was created last August when my mother and her brother went to meet the Lord just a week apart. The outpouring of precious, heart-felt words to my cousin’s family has been amazing! The expression of LOVE using WORDS has drawn us closer together as a family. Folks… what we as a family have been experiencing during this time of sadness, is showing us how God intends for us to use our words.
This overwhelming deluge of love using the words that God has given us, has caused me to reflect back over the last eight months. The loving thoughts and words using our chat group have drawn our family closer together than I can ever remember. Thank You Lord for the Mac group!!!! Rest in peace dear cousin!!!!
In the next post we’ll be digging a little deeper into our words and how God intends for us to use them.
Thank you Mike for putting this out there for all to read and draw strength from. Your words are so comforting
