Downloads from the Lord: The Spoken Word, Part Four
At the conclusion of the previous post I made the statement; “In the next post, you will see how very serious Almighty God views our words. After all, He created everything with His spoken Word!” Well here we go…we’ll start off slow and then allow God to kick it up a notch:
Proverbs 11:12 (NIV)
12 A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his tongue.
Proverbs 29:20 (ESV)
20 Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
Proverbs 12:18 (ESV)
18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
James 1:26 (NIV)
26If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
James 3:5 (ESV)
5So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!
Proverbs 18:21 (ESV)
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
Romans 10:9-10 (ESV)
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
I hope and pray that everyone reading this post has committed their life to Christ! However, even Born Again Christians will be judged on their words, and our reward in Heaven depends on what we have said and done! As we read in 2 Corinthians 5:10 below, whether saved or unsaved, we will answer for every word we have uttered. Good or bad, positive or negative, wholesome or unwholesome, our words are not to be taken lightly!
2 Corinthians 5:10 (MSG)
10 Sooner or later we’ll all have to face God, regardless of our conditions. We will appear before Christ and take what’s coming to us as a result of our actions, either good or bad.
Matthew 6:19-20 (ESV)
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
1 Peter 1:3-4 (MSG)
3 What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, 4 including a future in heaven—and the future starts now!
Father God, I lift up to You each one of us that’s reading this blog right now:
First… Please give each of us the opportunity to confirm our relationship with You through
Your son Jesus!
Second… Please help us to choose our words wisely and speak them in a compassionate manner, so that we might be an example to others of Your great love! May You be glorified through us in all we say and do! In the name of Jesus I pray. AMEN!
