Exactly what is a “Conspiracy Theory?”

In this day and age we live in we hear a lot about “Conspiracy Theories.”  Who really shot JFK? Was the moon landing a fake? Is Bigfoot real? Here’s one for today… The Covid-19 vaccine has a 5G chip in it.

A Conspiracy Theory is nothing more than a group of individuals conspiring (collaborating) to promote a particular theory (belief) regarding an event or idea. That seems harmless enough, however… when the aforementioned event/idea is branded as a “Conspiracy Theory” it is often assumed to be something nefarious or bad! There are four possibilities when it comes to a Conspiracy Theory that I have listed below:

  1. A theory exists that something is true and in fact it turns out to be proven true!
  2. A theory exists that something is true and in fact it turns out to be proven false!
  3. A theory exists that something is false and in fact it turns out to be proven false!
  4. A theory exists that something is false and in fact it turns out to be proven true!

If that was confusing, try reading it again slowly. LOL

The reason or intent of a particular theory becomes the issue. Was it intended to give a false impression, to scare or mislead people? The Bible has a lot to say about that:

Proverbs 19:9 (NIV)
9 A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will perish.

Isaiah 8:12-13 (NLT)
12 Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don’t live in dread of what frightens them. 13 Make the LORD of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 (AMP)
21 But test and prove all things [until you can recognize] what is good; [to that] hold fast.

During this midterm election time of 2022, there is every type of Conspiracy Theory being tossed around by one candidate toward another. The news media propagates Conspiracy Theories to bolster a particular narrative or improve their ratings. So… just who can we trust in making our decisions?

1 John 4:1 (NLT)
1 Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God.

John 14:6 (NIV)
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

We must go to Jesus with our questions for clarification and truth! The Bible gives us a very specific way to differentiate between one candidate and another; compare their records!

Matthew 7:15-16 (NIV)
15 Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Here is a little reminder from last week’s post: Identify the candidates that believe in and stand up for the Constitution of the United States of America and vote for them! In other words… check out their fruit!

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT)
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

If the Lord leads me in that direction, there may be more regarding Conspiracy Theories next posting. Continue to pray for next week’s election! The very future of our country and the freedoms we hold dear hang in the balance!
