Downloads from the Lord: Lord, we need your intervention in the world today! Part 2
What do you believe God’s number one goal and priority is in the world today? Is it world peace, or is it bringing people to justice? Justice for the individuals who have been responsible for the condition we find ourselves in, around the world and specifically in this country today? Could it be that God is most interested in bringing fairness and equity between people groups and individuals? Maybe God is most upset about the way we have taken care of the beautiful creation that He put us in charge of. Perhaps I should say haven’t taken care of? I could probably go on and on here: how about violence, greed, hunger, hatred, selfishness or perhaps the condition of our churches today?
I’m sure God is not exactly pleased with every one of the areas listed above. No doubt, the Lord would like to see an improvement in each and every one of these circumstances. After all, Genesis chapter one says we are to subdue and rule over God’s creation.
Genesis 1:26-30 (NIV)
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” 29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground–everything that has the breath of life in it–I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
So yes, God is very concerned about His creation and how it is being managed and cared for. In 2 Chronicles 7, God has promised to heal our land if we humble ourselves and pray.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
There are literally millions of people around the world right now who are humbling themselves and praying for God to intervene. So why hasn’t He moved to help before now? The situations in the world seem to go from bad to worse.
However, do you remember the question I originally asked? It was “What do you believe God’s number one goal and priority is in the world today”? God’s primary objective is to see as many souls as possible come to a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible bears this out:
2 Peter 3:8-9 (NIV)
8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Could it be that God is allowing the turmoil that is permeating the United States and certainly the world, to get the attention of those who have not yet made a decision to receive Jesus Christ as their personal Savior?
Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)
9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Perhaps those of us that call ourselves Christion, should spend a little less time praying for the chaos in the world to end, and more time praying for God to use the turmoil to draw the people who are lost to Jesus? – Something to ponder –
