God so Loved the World that He Gave His Son: The greatest Spiritual battle ever fought – part forty five
As my wife, Shirley, and I were doing our daily Bible reading this morning, I paused to ask her a question. “Is the Word of God, (the Bible), important to you?” I realized that it was a rhetorical question because I already knew how important God’s Word is to Shirley. She responded by saying, “Yes it’s important to me; however, the bigger question for us Christians is… do we really believe what the Word of God says?” As we discussed it further we realized that living as though we don’t fully believe His Word can imprison us to a life of defeat and failure.
Folks… let’s be truthful here, the awesome God who created each one of us, and for that matter created everything we see around us and beyond, has given us His Words! Just think of this… when was the last time you deeply contemplated the fact that Almighty God, the God of the Universe, communicates with us by His Written Word? God tells us in His Word that His Glory can be observed by looking at the sky:
Psalm 19:1-4 (NLT2)
1 The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. 2 Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. 3 They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. 4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
Dr. Frank Turek, the well-known Christian Apologist, defender of the Christian faith, gives us some amazing facts when attempting to comprehend God and His awesomeness:
- Researchers at the University of Hawaii calculated that there are over 10,000 galaxies in 1/24,000,000 of the sky. To illustrate; if you held up a grain of rice to the sky, that would be about 1/24,000,000 of the sky. The total number of galaxies in the entire universe would be impossible for us to comprehend!
- If we counted all the grains of sand on all the beaches on the entire earth and multiplied it times 100,000, that would be close to the amount of stars in the universe!
- The International Space Station travels at a speed of 5 miles per second. If we could travel at Space Station speed, it would take us over 200,000 years to go from our star (the Sun) to the next nearest star in our Solar System!
Psalm 147:4-5 (NLT2)
4 He counts the stars and calls them all by name. 5 How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!
Are you feeling small yet? You may feel small but you are not insignificant to God! He created us in His image! He loved us so much that He sent His Son to redeem us from our sins!
John 3:16 (AMP)
16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
Psalm 39:1-7 (NLT2)
1I said to myself, “I will watch what I do and not sin in what I say. I will hold my tongue when the ungodly are around me.” 2 But as I stood there in silence— not even speaking of good things— the turmoil within me grew worse. 3 The more I thought about it, the hotter I got, igniting a fire of words: 4 “LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. 5 You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” Interlude 6 We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it. 7 And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.
So I ask us all again… is the Word of God important to you and me??? It is the Word of the God who made all of this!
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.
Thank you Jesus!
