God so Loved the World that He Gave His Son: The greatest Spiritual battle ever fought – part fifty-five
This week my blog post is going to be a little bit different. I’m going to be talking about something that on the surface might seem to be anything but spiritual. Well… instead of trying to explain it to you before I even divulge what it is, I’ll just go ahead and tell you the story.
About three weeks ago, I was getting some chairs out of the storage shed and setting them out on the back deck. As I was working around, I noticed several pieces of dry straw on the deck, and I immediately thought, “UH OH, a Robin must be building a nest on top of the flood light as they have done in years past.” The flood light has a flat top and as far as the bird is concerned, it is the perfect location, tucked up under the overhang of the house. However, it is right next to our sliding glass door and pretty much renders the door unusable for a few weeks.
Sure enough… she was starting a nest on top of the light, and I thought, “No you don’t, not this year!” I cleaned the straw off the light and went in the house. I came back out a little later and the Robin had started home-building again. At this point, I remembered that I had read somewhere that some scrunched-up aluminum foil on top of the light would discourage the nest building. I once again cleaned off the straw and added the aluminum foil. Checking back a little later I found the foil on the deck and the nest was started anew. I picked-up the foil and tried it again with the same result.
It was at that point that I had the thought, “Why am I fighting with this beautiful momma Robin who just wants to finish her nest, lay her eggs, and bring her babies into the world!” She won the battle! I backed off and let her complete her task. My wife and I were amazed at the finished nest. It was a work of art. She had even camouflaged the light with long streamers of straw. Here is a picture of the nest so you can appreciate what I’m describing:

She laid her eggs in the perfect nest that she had created for her babies! For the next two weeks she patiently sat on the eggs to keep them warm, only leaving occasionally to find something to eat, then quickly returning to those precious eggs. About a week ago the eggs hatched and there were suddenly hungry little Robin babies in the nest. At this point, both the male and female Robins were both kept busy finding food for their babies. It was amazing how quickly the babies grew. They have all now left the nest, and with momma and dad’s protection, are now new little lives, finding their way in the world. It was at this point that I believe the Lord spoke to my heart and said, “You have just witnessed My awesome creative power!” Folks… what I just observed was not something that occurred because of evolution! New little bird lives came into existence where less than a month ago, they didn’t exist!
Praise the Lord for His creative power!
Psalm 36:6-9 (NLT2)
6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O LORD. 7 How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings. 8 You feed them from the abundance of your own house, letting them drink from your river of delights. 9 For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.
Almighty God loves His creation, especially human life, but also the precious animal life that He nurtures and takes care of.
Matthew 6:25-34 (NLT2)
25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.
Thank You Lord for reminding us that Your Love for us is greater than we can even imagine. And Your love also extends to the little birdies on our deck!!!!! Praise You Lord!!!!!
