Chapter 8 – Jesus is the Way
As a reminder… last week I talked about John 14:6 being the passage of Scripture that I anchor my blog upon. It is a powerful portion of Scripture that I’ll show here again for reference:
John 14:6 (NIV84)
6Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
I have talked a lot, in past posts, about Jesus being “The Truth,” and I talked last week about Jesus being “The Life.” John 14:6 also tells us that Jesus is “The Way.” I want to spend some time discovering “Jesus is the Way” to where?
- Most importantly, John 14:6 says in no uncertain terms that Jesus is the way to the Father! … No one comes to the Father except through me.
Here is more proof, from a very well-known passage of Scripture, that Jesus is the way to the Father:
John 3:16–21 (NIV84)16“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”
- Jesus is the way to determine what to believe and what not to believe in our confusing world today:
Romans 12:1–2 (NIV84)
1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
I was just reflecting on how important this directive is! As we are in the midst of a very important election in this country, how do we know what is true???
John 8:12–18 (NIV84)
12When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” 13The Pharisees challenged him, “Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid.” 14Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. 15You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me. 17In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid. 18I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.”
Jesus is the answer to everything we face in this world! All we have to do is:
- Repent of our sins, and ask Jesus for forgiveness.
- He will forgive us and give us access to Father God and the Holy Spirit.
- Go to Jesus in prayer, asking for direction in life.
- We can ask Him for answers to our questions.
- Spend time with Him every day in prayer and reading the Bible.
Jesus is God’s answer to our disappointment, doubts, desires, despair, darkness, and death! Jesus understands us. He knows life is hard and that it is often filled with physical and emotional pain. He empathizes with us because he lived for 33 years in this physical world and experienced all the things we experience. He did it without sinning even one time!
