Chapter 1 – Our Lord and Savior is Jesus Christ!

As I was reflecting on a blog post for today, The Holy Spirit spoke to my mind and said: “Post about the fact that Jesus Christ is Lord!” My immediate reaction was to say to myself: “Everybody already knows that.” Then the back-and-forth began taking place solely in my mind:
Back Some people believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, and some people don’t.

Forth But… most people believe that He is Lord and choose to ignore it.

Back It’s not about what they believe, it’s about how they choose to live.

Forth But… what can I do about how people choose to live?

Back Write about it in the blog.

Forth Okay… that is what I’ll do.

Let’s begin with a couple passages of Scripture stating that Jesus is Lord:

Philippians 2:9–11 (ESV)

9Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Romans 10:8–17 (ESV)

8But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Romans 10:9 clearly tells us that the way to be saved is through believing and confessing that Jesus Christ is the Lord! Now that we have established Scripturally that Jesus is Lord, what does it mean for Him to become Lord of my life? For Jesus to be Lord of my life means that He is the ruler, the boss, the master of my whole life. He cannot be Lord of only a part of my life… He must be given control of my entire life or He is not truly Lord at all! He wants to be Lord of my total self: body, soul, and spirit. That means He is allowed to have control of the unseen-to-the-natural-eye aspect of my life as well as the visible. It’s both the public life that is seen and heard by those I come in contact with on a day-by-day basis as well as the me that only He sees!

Colossians 3:1–15 (ESV)

1If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.2Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 11Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. 12Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
