Chapter 20 – Jesus is Lord! Honor Him every day as Lord.

Why should we honor the Lord Jesus Christ every moment of every day? The obvious answer to that question is: “because the Word of God tells us to!” We are exhorted to honor Him as Lord over 700 times in the Bible. I would say that is a pretty powerful mandate that we dare not ignore! I did a dive into just some of those 700 passages and will share a few of them with you in this week’s post:

Revelation 5:6–14 (NLT)
6Then I saw a Lamb that looked as if it had been slaughtered, but it was now standing between the throne and the four living beings and among the twenty-four elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which represent the sevenfold Spirit of God that is sent out into every part of the earth. 7He stepped forward and took the scroll from the right hand of the one sitting on the throne. 8And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9And they sang a new song with these words: “You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10And you have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth.” 11Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders. 12And they sang in a mighty chorus: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered— to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.” 13And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.14And the four living beings said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb.

Hebrews 3:3 (NIV84)
3Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.

John 5:22–23 (NLT)
22In addition, the Father judges no one. Instead, he has given the Son absolute authority to judge, 23so that everyone will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son is certainly not honoring the Father who sent him.

Colossians 3:17 (ESV)

17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Here is a list of five benefits of honoring the Lord, taken from a sermon on that subject:

  1. SPIRITUAL GROWTH:
       – We grow Spiritually as a result of our obedience and reverence. Proverbs 1:7
       – We deepen our relationship with Him. James 4:8
  2. DEVINE PROTECTION:
       –
He promises to protect us in times of trouble. Psalm 91:14-15
       – He delivers us from evil. 2 Thessalonians 3:3
  3. BLESSINGS:
       – These blessings are a reflection of His love for us. Proverbs 3:9-10

    – We are blessed with abundant life through Him. John 10:10
  4. WISDOM AND GUIDANCE:
       – Wisdom is a gift from the Lord that guides us in our decisions and actions. Proverbs 9:10
       – He guides us in the right path and illuminates our way.  Psalm 32:8
  5. ETERNAL LIFE:
       – God promises eternal life to those who honor Him. John 3:16

    – The ultimate benefit of honoring the Lord is living in His presence forever. Psalm 16:11

Revelation 1:12–20 (ESV)
12Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. 14The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, 15his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. 16In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. 17When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, 18and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. 19Write therefore the things that you have seen, those that are and those that are to take place after this. 20As for the mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands, the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

Heavenly Father, we know and understand that we show honor to You by honoring Your Son Jesus! We thank you, Jesus, for loving us so much that You gave Your life for us.  We treasure our fellowship with You, the Father, and the Holy Spirit now and forever more! We pray this in Your precious name. Amen.
