Chapter 31 – Jesus Keeps His Promises!

Over the past few weeks, I have heard the following phrase repeated over and over; “Promises made… Promises kept!” Of course, it has been in reference to President Trump. Yes, he made a lot of promises during the campaign, and he is quickly striving to fulfill the pledges he made to the American people. However, it’s not President Trump that I want to focus on in this week’s blog post. I’m sure that you have already figured out who I’m talking about by the title of this week’s post; “Jesus Keeps His Promises!”

It’s not uncommon for people to make promises; however, it is much more difficult to keep those promises than it is to make them. Just think of all the promises that were broken after the “New Year’s Resolution” wore off. My mind just reverted back to when I was a Boy Scout. Wow… that was a long time ago. I still remember the “Boy Scout Promise or Oath” as it was called. Let’s see if I can remember it without asking Google: “On my honor I will do my best, to do my duty, to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”  Okay, okay, I had to Google it to get some of the words correct. “Me bad.” I couldn’t count the number of times I have broken that promise through the years!

One person who never breaks a promise is The Lord Himself. Let’s check out a few Scripture passages that remind us of His promises and faithfulness:

Psalm 145:13 (NLT)
13For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.

2 Corinthians 1:19–20 (NLT)
19For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” He is the one whom Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate “Yes,” he always does what he says. 20For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

Joshua 21:45 (NLT)
45Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.

2 Peter 1:3–4 (NLT)
3By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

2 Corinthians 1:17–22 (NLT)
17You may be asking why I changed my plan. Do you think I make my plans carelessly? Do you think I am like people of the world who say “Yes” when they really mean “No”? 18As surely as God is faithful, our word to you does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” 19For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” He is the one whom Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate “Yes,” he always does what he says. 20For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory. 21It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, 22and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.

Thank You Heavenly Father for Your wonderful, glorious, promises that will never be broken or overlooked! Amen.
