My Thoughts on the Election part 3 of 5
Many respected Christian leaders have been meeting with Donald Trump and have publicly endorsed him. He has assembled what he calls his “Evangelical Advisory Board” which is made up of many prominent Christian leaders: James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, Jerry Falwell Jr, President, Liberty University, Tim Clinton, President, American Association of Christian Counselors, Robert Jeffress, Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church of Dallas, and David Jeremiah, Senior Pastor, Shadow Mountain Community Church, just to mention a few of the more than two dozen well known and well thought of Christian leaders.
I’m sure these Christian leaders do not condone or excuse some of Donald Trump’s actions. He doesn’t claim to be perfect; in fact he admits to being far from perfect.
It reminds me of the time that Jesus was choosing His Disciples:
- When He chose Matthew the tax collector, the religious leaders were irate to say the least. Matthew was a cheat who would charge the people extra taxes just to line his own pockets.
- Simon Peter went into fits of rage and used profanities in insisting that he didn’t even know Jesus during the trial.
- Saul of Tarsus was hunting down the new believers who were following Jesus Christ. He thought he was doing the right thing for God. Then Jesus appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus and he became The Apostle Paul. He went on to present Jesus to the Gentiles and also went on to write about a third of the New Testament of the Bible. I’m sure glad that he wasn’t disqualified to be used by God!
– Also in the Bible –
- Rahab was a prostitute. She is known as Rahab the Harlot. God used her to save the spies that Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. Her, and her family, were saved when Jericho fell.
- Judah thought he was having a fling with a prostitute and later he found out she was his daughter-in-law, Tamar. She had twin sons, Perez and Zerah, fathered by Judah. Judah and Perez are in the family line of none other than Jesus himself. Jesus is called “The Lion of the Tribe of Judah.”
I could go on and on. The Bible is full of people who seemed on the outside to be unfit and unqualified, but God specializes in qualifying the unqualified! God doesn’t choose perfect people, He chooses people who will allow The Holy Spirit to work through them to achieve the will of God! So…God CAN use Donald Trump if He chooses to!
I would suggest praying long and hard before writing off Donald Trump! We had better make sure that we are not just looking at the outer man. Are we missing the potential of a man that the Lord may want to clean-up and use for the Glory of God and the future of this great country of ours! We can’t afford to be like the New Testament religious leaders who in the name of religion, would not accept even Jesus himself and had Him arrested and crucified.
Believe me, I am not saying Donald Trump is a Matthew, Peter or Paul. I simply don’t know from looking at the surface. What I do know is, he comes along at a very crucial time for this country, and he seems to me to be changing as he goes through this political process. Is that God changing him? I simply don’t know at this point. But I am praying for God’s wisdom and the discernment of the Holy Spirit before I jump to any conclusions! That’s my responsibility! To pray and seek the Lord regarding Donald Trump, and not to run him down, and smear him, like the Left and the biased news media are doing! They don’t need our help!
Like it or not, Donald Trump is the Republican/Conservative candidate and our only hope of keeping Hillary Clinton and her progressive agenda out of the Oval Office! Pray, Pray, Pray for wisdom and discernment!
