God so Loved the World that He Gave His Son: The greatest Spiritual battle ever fought – part thirty six
As I sat down at the computer to begin writing this week’s blog, the thought popped into my mind “Who is God?” So I asked the Holy Spirit if that’s what I should write about. I immediately had a strong affirmative response in my mind. So… here we go. Let’s start with how the Bible describes God:
1 John 1:5 (NIV)
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
Psalm 54:4 (NIV)
4 Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.
1 Timothy 1:17 (NIV)
17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Exodus 3:14 (NIV)
14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”
John 4:24 (NIV)
24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.
Psalm 50:6 (NIV)
6And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God himself is judge.
Deuteronomy 4:24 (NIV)
24 For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
Deuteronomy 4:31 (NIV)
31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath.
2 Chronicles 30:9 (NIV)
9 If you return to the LORD, then your brothers and your children will be shown compassion by their captors and will come back to this land, for the LORD your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.”

9 God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.
1 John 4:7-8 (NIV)
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
I started looking up Scripture about who God is and I got so excited that I just had to keep going! In the last passage above, 1 John 4:8, says that God is Love. It doesn’t say that God gives love, it says that GOD IS LOVE!!!! It means that the very essence of God is love!!! God’s attributes, as described in the scriptures above, all emanate from love because He Is Love!!! Just let that sink in! As I was typing this about His love, I could feel His tenderness, compassion, warmth… yes, His love envelope me! Praise the Lord!
Romans 5:6-8 (NIV)
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

I have always marveled that in Romans 5:6-8 Jesus died for us and just the right time. my right time was late 1995 just before revival, I may not have listened at any other time. thank you Jesus.
