God so Loved the World that He Gave His Son: The greatest Spiritual battle ever fought – part forty seven-c
A quick word here before we get started on this blog post, if you haven’t had a chance to read last two week’s blog posts, now would be a good time to read them. Once again, here is the portion of Scripture that really caught our attention:
Numbers 7:3-9 (NLT2)
3 Together they brought six large wagons and twelve oxen. There was a wagon for every two leaders and an ox for each leader. They presented these to the LORD in front of the Tabernacle. 4 Then the LORD said to Moses, 5 “Receive their gifts, and use these oxen and wagons for transporting the Tabernacle. Distribute them among the Levites according to the work they have to do.” 6 So Moses took the wagons and oxen and presented them to the Levites. 7 He gave two wagons and four oxen to the Gershonite division for their work, 8 and he gave four wagons and eight oxen to the Merarite division for their work. All their work was done under the leadership of Ithamar son of Aaron the priest. 9 But he gave none of the wagons or oxen to the Kohathite division, since they were required to carry the sacred objects of the Tabernacle on their shoulders.
We ended last week’s post by saying… that opens up a whole new, very important, area for discussion. We’ll have to wait till next week to discover what Holy Spirit has for us regarding the Old Testament Sacred Objects and Jesus. Are you ready? Wow!… it’s next week already. Here we go!
- Can we see the foretelling of Jesus from Numbers 7:3-9, the passage that caught our attention to start with?
- Jesus promises to carry our burdens as the ox carts did in Numbers: 1 Peter 5:7
- The oxen were yoked together, and we are to be yoked to Jesus: Matthew 11:28-30
- Jesus carried the Sacred Burden, The Cross: John 19:16-18
- We are now Priests and can go to our Tabernacle, that is now Jesus, at any time: 1 Peter 2:9
- How many Old Testament Scripture passages do you think reference the coming Messiah, Jesus? According to Theologians, there are actually over 300! Let’s take a look at just a few:
Isaiah 7:14 (NLT2)
14 All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).
Micah 5:2 (NLT2)
2 But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past.
Zechariah 9:9 (NLT2)
9 Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey— riding on a donkey’s colt.
Psalm 22:16-18 (NLT2)
16 My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet. 17 I can count all my bones. My enemies stare at me and gloat. 18 They divide my garments among themselves and throw dice for my clothing.
Jesus can and will open our eyes to the meaning of Scripture! Both Old and New Testament! He does just that with the two men on the road to Emmaus:
Luke 24:25-27 (NLT2)
25 Then Jesus said to them, “You foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures. 26 Wasn’t it clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering his glory?” 27 Then Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
The Old Testament is powerful! It is after all, The Word of God!!!
Jesus is The Word of God!!! The Word became flesh and dwelt among us: John 1:14-18
