Chapter 40 – In the name of Jesus!
The Holy Bible tells us that in the name of Jesus there is power! I believe that the Holy Spirit would have me spend a little time today focusing on the power in the name of Jesus. That means a deep dive into Scripture, and there is definitely a lot of Scripture regarding the power in His name! So here we go:
Matthew 1:20–21 (ESV)
20But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
Matthew chapter one above tells us that the name Jesus was chosen by His Father in Heaven!
Colossians 3:17 (ESV)
17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
John 16:23–24 (ESV)
23In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, (the name of Jesus), he will give it to you. 24Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
Acts 4:29–30 (ESV)
29And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.
Acts 2:37–39 (ESV)
37Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
The passages above in Colossians, John and Acts encourage us to invoke the name of Jesus when we pray!
Ephesians 1:15–23 (ESV)
15For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints,16I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Philippians 2:9–11 (ESV)
9Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Ephesians chapter one and Philippians two above assure us that the power of the name of Jesus will never cease. It will prevail throughout eternity!
Acts 19:11–16 (ESV)
11And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, 12so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them. 13Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.” 14Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this. 15But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?” 16And the man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Acts chapter 19 above clearly shows us that invoking the name of Jesus without having a relationship with Him, can have negative repercussions!
Heavenly Father, we give You thanks for your immense love for us, and we thank You for the precious gift of Your Son Jesus! Amen.
Thank you, Mike for reminding us of the power that is in the name of Jesus! That includes healing. We thank you, Lord for the healing of Mike, in the mighty name of Jesus!❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙂
