Chapter 41 – More about Jesus!
In the current category titled Jesus Christ is Lord, I have published 40 posts regarding Jesus. Prior to typing this post, I asked the Holy Spirit in prayer if I should begin a new category. In my prayer I said, “I now have 40 posts about Jesus in this category, and I believe I have covered just about everything I can think of regarding Jesus.” What then popped into my mind then, and I believe it was my answer from the Holy Spirit; It went like this… “Everything in this life is about Jesus, and you have just scratched the surface of things to say about your Lord and Savior!” So, I guess I will be adding a few more interesting facts about Jesus as the Holy Spirit gives me the words to say.
What I haven’t covered in the previous 40 posts is “Who is this man named Jesus?” Let’s take a look at what Scripture has to say about Him:
John 1:1–18 (ESV)
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. 9The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15(John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’ ”) 16For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
John 1:1-18 is jam-packed full of the exciting reality of who Jesus is! It takes a little time and effort to unpack the fullness and magnificence of this person that is described as fully Man and fully God:
- Jesus, the Word of God, was present with the Father in the beginning!
- The Word became flesh and dwelt among us as Jesus, the Father’s one and only Son!
- Jesus is the Light of Life!
- Jesus came to His own people, and they Didn’t receive Him as God!
- Jesus gave the right to become children of God to All who did receive Him!
- Jesus is the Truth, He is all Truth, the only source of Truth!
- Jesus forgives us of our sins by grace!
John 10:27–30 (ESV)
27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30I and the Father are one.”
John 10:27-30 tells us more about who Jesus is:
- We can know the voice of Jesus, and follow Him!
- If we belong to Jesus, we have eternal life!
- No one can snatch us out of the hand of Jesus or the hand of the Father!
- Jesus and the Father are one!
I believe the following passages about Jesus are self-explanatory:
Galatians 3:28–29 (ESV)
28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.
Colossians 1:15–17 (ESV)
15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Revelation 19:11–13 (ESV)
11Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. Glory to God in the Highest! Jesus is Lord and King of all Kings!!!!!!!!
