Chapter 35 – Jesus explains Life.

I didn’t get the Friday blog post submitted yesterday. It was a busy day that just sort of got away from me. last evening, a good friend of ours passed from this life, to life everlasting with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thinking about our friend and the fact that he was experiencing life… real, glorious life right now in Heaven, caused me to do some pondering about life itself. Jesus said this about life:

John 14:1–11 (ESV)
1“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4And you know the way to where I am going.” 5Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” 8Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.

In the Scripture passage above, Jesus not only said that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, but He went on to say that “no one comes to the Father except through Me.” What did He mean by that statement when He said “except through Me?”

John 10:7–18 (ESV)
7So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. 11I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

In verse 10 above, Jesus clearly says that He is the way to life and to have life abundantly. A life full of joy and strength for the spirit, soul, and body. My own personal opinion is that He was not only talking about life here on earth, but more importantly, life eternally with Him in Heaven! That is why I can say without a doubt, our friend is enjoying Heaven right now because he had accepted Jesus as his “Personal Savior!” The Door to eternal life in Heaven!

Thank You, Jesus, for giving up Your life on the Cross, that through You we have a doorway to eternal life! All we have to do is repent of our sins, ask You for forgiveness, and receive you as our personal Savior, just as our friend had done. Amen!
