Chapter 39 – Jesus in the series “The Chosen!”

It is almost 7:00 pm and I am just beginning to write this week’s edition of my blog. Shirley and I just got home from the movie theater where we watched episodes 3, 4, and 5, of season 5, of the series “The Chosen.” I have written about “The Chosen” in an earlier blog post, however, because it is so fresh on my mind, I believe it is time to mention it again.

If you are not familiar with The Chosen, it is a free/crowd-funded, on-line series about the ministry years of Jesus Christ. It is the love effort of the originator Dallas Jenkins. Some of you may remember Dallas’s father, Jerry Jenkins, who co-wrote the “Left Behind” book series along with Tim LaHaye, back in the late 1990’s.

The Chosen, when finished, will consist of seven seasons, eight episodes per season. They are currently on season five, which right now is only released to theaters. All previous seasons/episodes are available for binge watching or watching at your own convenience. We have personally watched all the existing episodes two or three times each because it is without a doubt that impactful!

Here are some of the factors that I believe sets The Chosen apart from other films about the life of Jesus:

  • It is not cheesy. Is that the right word? It’s not trite or cheaply done.
  • It is well thought out and well written! I would say… ”very well written or even anointed of God!”
  • It stays consistent with Scripture and fills in the gaps with plausible content and dialog.
  • The writing, acting and directing is impeccable! I have never seen any better.
  • Protestant, Catholic and Messianic Jewish advisers give their “okay” on every script as acceptable to their belief.
  • There will be a total of 56 episodes when complete, so time is taken to totally develop each character. You begin to feel like you really know them. Scripture comes alive before our very eyes!
  • Jonathan Roumie, who plays the part of Jesus, is powerfully anointed for that difficult, demanding role!
  • Jesus is seen through the eyes of those who know Him best: His Disciples, followers and His mother.
  • The historical scenery, props, costumes and performances are very much in harmony with Biblical times.
  • As you watch The Chosen you are transported to that place and time. It’s like you’re right there!
  • The Chosen is currently being viewed by countless millions of people around the world, in their own language.
  • As I mentioned before, it is free to watch; however, you can donate to the project. They call it; pay it forward.

When you get half way through season one, I pray that you’ll be as enthusiastic about this series as I am! I have personally drawn closer to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through watching The Chosen! As good as it is however, it does not take the place of the Holy Bible!!! Scripture is still the only source of truth!

You can view The Chosen by down-loading The Chosen app to your phone, tablet or smart TV from your app store. You can then view it on that device or cast it to your television. On televisions with app capabilities, such as Roku TV, Apple TV and Fire TV, etc. The Chosen app can be loaded directly on the TV as you would any other app.

I believe The Chosen is the very best series or movie about Jesus that has ever been made! I realize that’s a bold statement, and I wouldn’t say that if I didn’t believe it’s true! It brings Praise, Honor and Glory to The Lord Jesus Christ!

Give me some feedback if you also watch “The Chosen,” or plan to begin watching from the beginning. You will love it!

Psalm 150:1-6 (NLT)
1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven! 2 Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness! 3 Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise him with the lyre and harp!4 Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! 5 Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. 6 Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD! Praise the LORD!
