Chapter 9 – Jesus is the Source of Power

I wrote about Jesus being “The Word of God” in Chapter 3 of this series. We discovered that Jesus was the Creator of all that we see around us in this physical world. If you haven’t had the opportunity to read Chapter 3, now would be a good time to do so before reading the rest of today’s blog post.

  • “The reality of what we hope for” does it exist in the unseen realm? We are hoping for it and praying for it; however, we do not see it right now in the physical!
  • “The evidence of things we cannot see” residing in the unseen realm. How can there be evidence of something we can’t see?

We are going to investigate both of these questions and we’ll see where it leads us!

Let’s begin by taking a look at the AC (Alternating Current) electricity that we use every day in our homes. We can’t see it but we know it’s there because it powers all of our electrical devices. We use it so much that we tend to take it for granted whether we understand how it works or not! Without getting too detailed, the AC power, provided by the electric company, is nothing more than electrons moving through a wire. When we turn on the light switch, those electrons move through the light bulb, causing it to glow… Walla, creating light!

Can we see the AC power? Can we see those electrons moving through the wire? Can we see the electrons moving through the light bulb? The answer is no to all three questions. However, when we flipped on that light switch, light was the thing we hoped for, and the light bulb glowing and giving off light is the evidence of things not seen!!!

  1. A down power line
  2. A blown transformer
  3. A defective light meter
  4. A missed payment
  5. A tripped circuit breaker
  6. A broken wire in the house
  7. A defective switch
  8. A burned-out light bulb

Now… hold on to this analogy of the light bulb as we apply the same principals to Spiritual matters:

For the sake of convenience, I will restate the information that I started with, this time in blu. We will see if the same principles apply in the Spiritual as well as the physical.

Matthew 28:18–20 (NLT)
18Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

We go to Jesus in faith, requesting something in prayer. We are stating the reality of what we hope for. We believe that Jesus has the Power and Resources in the unseen realm to meet our requested need!

Matthew 21:21–22 (NLT)21Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen.22You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.”

Jesus says we can pray for anything, and if we have faith, we will receive it. This is the evidence of things not seen.

Now… let’s take a look at some things that could disrupt the flow of the promise of Jesus. They all seem to be on our side of the ledger, not on God’s side:

  1. There is never a down line to the Lord
  2. There is never a lack of power
  3. There is never any faulty equipment
  4. There is never a bill to pay
  5. We have unforgiveness
  6. We are not in tune with Jesus
  7. We ask with wrong motives
  8. We don’t ask according to His will

Heavenly Father, we realize that it must always be “Your will be done not our will.” Please, help us keep the lines of communication with You open. Help us to gain a deeper understanding of communing with you. We desire to connect with you in the unseen realm as well as the physical world. AMEN

Next week, Lord willing, we will dive a little deeper into understanding the unseen world!
